Once we have arranged our first session, you may begin to have lots of thoughts and questions around what to expect; how will I know what to say, or even where to begin? This is perfectly natural and I have been there myself! So here is a brief outline of what to expect ...
Our first session is at your pace and you only need to share with me, what you feel is important. There is no pressure for you to tell me 'everything'. It is an opportunity for you to paint me a picture of 'you'. This may include: What has brought you to counselling at this point in your life? Who's involved? What effect is this having on your feelings and emotions? How is day to day life affected? Is it the past, the present, or future worries and anxieties, which are having the most effect on you right now? What would you like to achieve from counselling? Are there any specific changes you would like to make?
During our second and subsequent sessions, we can then start to 'dig down' and 'unpick' the areas which you feel are affecting you the most. This is guided by you, and not directed by me. I believe you know best what hurts, what problems in your life are most crucial, and what experiences have been 'boxed off' deep within you.
There is no homework, questionaires to complete, deadlines to meet or boxes to tick. We can have regular reviews, to see how you feel your counselling is progressing for you, if you would like. I will be guided by you, and your needs.
Session frequency is then at your discretion. We can work together weekly, fortnightly, monthly or as and when you feel you need to meet. This is your space, for you to do what is right for you. However, to remain ethical, I will inform you if I feel I am no longer helping you.
If you therefore feel having a confidential, safe, non-judgemental and accepting space to explore whatever you are carrying right now would help, please get in touch. You don't need to be at crisis point, or heading towards one. Counselling is for everyone and can be literally life changing.
