Once we have arranged our first session, you may begin to have lots of thoughts and questions around what to expect; how will I know what to say, or even where to begin?
This is perfectly natural and I have been there myself!
So here is a brief outline of what to expect ...
Our first session moves at your pace, and you only need to share what feels important. It’s an opportunity to build me a picture of “you” — what’s brought you here, how it affects your feelings and daily life, and what you hope to achieve or change through counselling. There’s no pressure to tell me everything.
During our second and subsequent sessions, we can then start to 'dig down' and 'unpick' the areas which you feel are affecting you the most. This is guided by you. I believe you know best what hurts, what problems in your life are most crucial, and what experiences have been 'boxed off' deep within you.
I am mindful that every client works differently, so our sessions are shaped around what works best for you. We can talk, write things down, be creative, or take breaks when needed. There is no 'right' way to do counselling!
You may naturally reflect on what we’ve discussed in session, but there’s no homework, questionnaires, or deadlines. We can review progress together as needed, guided by you and your needs.
